Somat also assists project stakeholders during the construction phase with expert-witness testimony, evaluations, analyses and consultation services. We have been involved with several alternative evaluation, construction feasibility and value engineering studies. The purpose and type of study determines the focus and approach. For study projects, Somat’s principals typically meet with the owner’s representatives, decision makers and other key stakeholders to determine their achievable goals. The work components are planned based on this understanding.
Somat has been involved with projects requiring alternative rock tunnel alignments for combined sewers, foundation design alternatives for large buildings, etc.
Our team of professionals typically performs site grading, excavation plans, and other construction related engineering services. The site-specific issues are carefully evaluated and effective solutions are provided to match with the respective project requirements. Our investigations are conducted in shallow soils to deep rock, from complicated urban site locations to open green-fields. We have used standard drilling techniques, angle-drilling techniques, test-pits excavations, rock coring, piezometer installation, in-situ permeability tests, geophysical testing
and in-situ strength tests to better analyze the subsurface conditions. Somat develops a site-specific drilling program that can provide the required information in an efficient manner.
Somat has extensive experience and provides as-need services for the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, which provides potable water to nearly four million people in
the metropolitan Detroit area.
