Baby Creek CSO Basin

In compliance with NPDES permit requirements, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) implemented a long-term Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) plan which identified improvements to their system. The construction of the Baby Creek CSO Basin is part of the Rouge River Remedial Action Plan. The project involved the construction of a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Control Facility located at George S. Patton Park in southwest Detroit, MI, with sewer work in nearby Woodmere Cemetery. The facility was constructed to control CSO discharges from outfall 057 which services approximately 14,300 acres of combined sewer in Detroit, Highland Park and Dearborn, MI. The major elements of this screening/disinfection/flow regulation facility included: basin, screening building, service building, chemical storage building, sewer treatment and effluent sampling building. Construction
cost: $100 million.
