ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES GETS BOOST

Somat has been providing quality-focused engineering consulting for federal, state, and local governments and private sector clients since 1986.  The firm’s diverse portfolio encompasses a variety of comprehensive consulting services including geotechnical, transportation environmental, and structural engineering, construction management, material and testing, and information technology solutions. 

Environmental protection and preservation are prominent on the mind of society today.  Society has become more diligent in its efforts to clean up our air, water and land.  As engineers, we play a vital role in delivering those solutions and maintain the duty of meeting the needs for a safe and livable ecosystem.  It is our mission is to provide environmentally sustainable designs that balance growth and development with nature.  Somat has positioned itself to meet these challenges through its newly appointed Environmental Manager, its LEED Certified Professional Engineer and HAZWOPPER and Confined Space Entry certified technicians. 

Duncan Mein, P.E., as Environmental Manager, will lead the firm’s Environmental Engineering efforts to address issues related to water and air pollution control, waste disposal, hazardous-waste management studies and environmental impact studies. 

Corey Switanowski, P.E., Geotechnical Project Engineer will ensure the firm delivers “green solutions.” Ms. Switanowski has achieved LEED accreditation from the United States Green Building Council.  This certification recognizes her as a professional with a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System.

 
Our environmental team also includes technicians certified in HAZWOPPER and Confined Space Entry.  Somat’s enhanced engineering capabilities enables the firm to deliver environmental consulting in the areas of environmental due diligence, brownfield redevelopment, storage tank management, water and air pollution, waste disposal, hazardous waste management, remediation and environmental impact studies as well as MDEQ and federal regulatory requirements to help protect the environment.

Somat is providing environmental investigation and site assessment services for numerous public school systems, healthcare facilities, commercial businesses and utility companies throughout Michigan.
